STEPHEN Donnelly, the Minister for Health, has said that all Covid-19 restrictions could be removed before Christmas.
The Government, he said, will lift restrictions ‘as quickly as possible’,
“Obviously specific dates would be something that we would be looking to Nphet for and we will be discussing at Cabinet,” he said.
“But yes, the view would be that we would be open this calendar year.
“What we would like is a lifting of all restrictions as quickly as possible. There may be restrictions that we may get public health advice to keep with for some time, for example, the higher risk environments where people should wear masks.”
Mr Donnelly said it had been a ‘brutal’ period for people and acknowledged that ‘real certainty’ was needed for people.
The Government is working on a roadmap for the easing of restriction and it is due to be published next week.
NPHET is to meet the Government this week and a Cabinet meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday.
