Brendan Boyce has committed to another Olympic Games.
The Finn Valley AC man has competed in three Olympic Games. The Milford man has confirmed his intention to try to qualify for the 2024 Games in Paris.
Although the 50k race walk – Boyce’s specialised event – has been discontinued by the IAAF, Boyce will now attempt to compete over the new 35k distance.
Boyce (34) reaffirmed his commitment to the sport at a homecoming function in his native Milford this evening.
In Tokyo, Boyce finished tenth, completing the race in three hours, 53 minutes and 40 seconds.
The performance was regarded by former Irish Olympic team manager Patsy McGonagle as ‘one of the all time best performances from this part of the world in the Olympic Games’.
This was Boyce’s third appearance at an Olympic Games, having finished 29th in London 2012 and 19th in Rio five years ago, when he finished in 3:53:59.
In September 2019, Boyce was sixth at the IAAF World Championships in Doha.
