TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of a popular Donegal teacher.
Alistair Tinney from Manorcunningham was the Head of Mathematics at Lisneal College in Derry.
Alistair, of Dunduffs Fort, Manor, passed away on Saturday.
“We are devastated to announce the passing of our dearly loved friend and former colleague, Alistair Tinney,” Lisneal College Principal, Michael Allen, said.
“Alistair served as Head of Mathematics from the school’s inception until his retirement in 2019. Alistair was the perfect professional, but more importantly a good man.”
Before joining the staff of Lisneal College in 2008, Mr Tinney was a maths teacher at Clondermot for over 20 years.
A spokesperson for Lisneal College added: “Alistair was the ultimate professional who helped establish our culture of high expectations and achievement in the maths department. More importantly, Alistair was a dedicated family man.”
His death took place on Saturday at the Donegal Hospice.
Alistair was much loved and will be sadly missed by his wife Hilary, son Andrew and daughter Rachel, daughter in law Nyaomi, son in law Maurice and grandson George.
His loss will be greatly felt by his sisters, brothers, extended family and friends.
His funeral service takes place at 4.30pm today in Ray Presbyterian Church with burial afterwards in the family plot in the adjoining graveyard.

Due to HSE and Government guidelines, the wake, funeral and interment are private to family and close friends only, with a maximum of 50 people permitted.
