It was certainly another busy and productive week at Buncrana Golf Club.
Derek Smith Memorial Open Stableford
There was a tremendous turnout last weekend for the Derek Smith Memorial Open Stableford a testament of the high esteem Derek was held in by all the local golfing fraternity. With the weather condition not too favourable for golf it was no surprise that the golfers were finding it difficult to score. However the conditions didn’t seem to affect Gerard Gallagher (19) as he played excellent golf in some of the worst conditions on Sunday morning to shoot a fantastic score of 43 pts. This score secured Gerard his first victory this year by 3 pts over his nearest rival Paul Mc Nicholl (14) who had a much welcome return to form on Saturday morning when shooting 40 pts. Cottage Bar Open Stableford Results
There was a great turnout for the Open Stableford played last Monday 2nd – Wednesday 4th August and this competition was sponsored by Cottage Bar Buncrana. The big hitting Brian Bradley (10) took the first prize with a fantastic score of 44 pts. Brian’s playing partner Evan Doherty was 3 pts further back in 2nd place and Fiáchra O’ Flaherty put together a tremendous front 9 off 4 under gross to secure the gross prize with a 66 gross. Caolan Mc Gonagle continues his fine run of form by taken 3rd place with a score of 40 pts which included his first ever hole in 1 at the 18th hole. The ever popular Michael Fitzpatrick Memorial Open always attracts a large crowd as Michael was held in high esteem by all the local golfing fraternity. So book early to avoid any possible disappointment and there is a timesheet in operation and it is advisable to book a tee time early to avoid any possible disappointment.
Juveniles
There will be a 18 Hole Stableford Juvenile Competition on Thursday12th August any juveniles interested in playing report to the clubhouse at 10:00 am on Thursday.
Juvenile lesson will commence on Friday 13th August with PGA Professional Derek Morrison.
There will be only 30 places available in this Juvenile camp which will run for the next 4 Friday’s. There will be 3 Professional’s in attendance with 3 different elements of the game being coached i.e. Chipping, Long Irons and Putting with a maximum of 10 Juveniles at each station.
