There is great sadness in the Newtowncunningham community and beyond following the passing of Breda Gallagher-Friel.

Breda, a much-admired mum-of-three, passed away on Tuesday night following a long battle with illness.

Tributes have been paid to her kindness, positive nature and her inspirational bravery.

Naomh Colmcille GAA club in Newtown shared a touching tribute today, saying: “Breda was a one in a million girl who held many positions in the club over the years and be it on committee, fundraising or on the sideline at a match she was always there with a big smile on her face and radiating positivity to all who came in contact with her.

“She loved being in the thick of it and having the craic with her many friends in the club and beyond and her infectious smile and sparkle will be so sadly missed.

“There’s no doubt that smile will live forever in the hearts of all those who knew her.”

Sincerest condolences are being offered to husband Karol, her loving kids Daithí, Katie May and Odhrán and the wider Friel and Gallagher families at this time.

Funeral arrangements are to be confirmed.
