A total of 15 people were arrested across Donegal for a variety of drink and drug driving offences over the Bank Holiday weekend.
There were seven drug driving arrests and eight drink driving arrests on the roads in recent days.
Gardaí say a number of fines were also issued for traffic offences, with the majority for speeding.
In one case, a driver was caught speeding in the Buncrana area. The driver then failed the roadside oral fluid test and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. A Court appearance will follow and the driver will also receive a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice.
Last Friday night/Saturday morning, the Roads Policing Unit in Letterkenny detected a couple of vehicles travelling in excess of the 50KPH limit. The driver of both cars were subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
“Unfortunately the road safety message isn’t getting through to everybody,” said garda spoksperson Grainne Doherty.
“Thankfully the weekend passed with no tragedies on the road.”
