Former Fianna Fáil Senator Brian O’Domhnaill has picked up a gold medal at today’s Ulster Athletics Championships in Belfast.
The Falcarragh native won the Men’s 3k walk in a time of 14:37.50, representing the Finn Valley Athletic Club.
The win comes just days after O’Domhnaill’s case for alleged drunk driving and hit and run was adjourned for the 20th time.
The case had been listed for hearing in Glenties District Court, but Brian O’Domhnaill (42) originally from Killult in Falcarragh was not in court.
Inspector David Durkin asked for another adjournment as said the Donegal State Solicitor, Mr Ciaran Liddy, was not available for the sitting.
The matter first came before the courts almost eight years ago.
He is charged with drunk driving, failing to remain at the scene and failing to give appropriate information at an alleged incident at Tullygay, Letterkenny on September 2, 2013.
A sitting of Falcarragh District Court in Letterkenny last month was told that the defendant was due to come back from Quebec in Canada to face the charges.
It was also intimated that he would be pleading guilty.
Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the matter until September 17 sitting of Falcarragh court.
The defendant had requested that his case be heard as Gaeilge.
