Householders and farmers in east Donegal have been left without water for the past week – and the issue will not be resolved for days to come.
Irish Water has blamed pump station works for causing ‘supply disruptions’ in the Killygordon townlands of Calhame, Bohanboy, Mullingar and Whitehill.
As a result, the utility has provided a water tanker for locals. However, it can also run dry before the day is out due to huge demand from farmers in what is a rich dairy farming area.
“Works are scheduled to take place from 9am on 22 July (last Thursday) until midday on 29 July. A water tanker is available in Whitehill until midnight on 29 July.,” read a statement on Irish Water’s website.
One resident, Marie Lafferty, told Donegal Daily that she has had no water supply to her home for the past week. Some others told us that their water had only stopped yesterday (Friday).
The utility also recommended that any members of the public who obtain water from a tanker should boil it before use.
