HE HURLED with Brian Cody, won an Ulster title with Donegal and helped Naomh Columba to Donegal SFC glory: Finín Ward’s story is certainly one worth telling.
The Teelin native is better known these days for his work as a pundit on TG4 and this week joined Ciaran Cannon on the Ciaran’s Cast podcast.
At Gormanstown, where he was a boarded, he played alongside Kerry great Denis ‘Ogie’ Moran.
At St Patrick’s in Drumcondra, Ward captained the football team, but he also hurled, playing at wing-back alongside Ger Loughnane and Cody.
Ward was at wing-back when Donegal won their first ever Ulster SFC title in 1974 and was a key member of the Naomh Columba side that collected Dr Maguire in 1978.
In this interview, Ward – a two-time Railway Cup medalist with Ulster – gives his forthright views on the game as it stands – and what changes he would make.
