‘Antisocial driving’ in Inishowen has increased since the start of the pandemic, a local engineer has said.
Donegal County Counci’s Senior Engineer, Mr Seamus Hopkins, made the comment at yesterday’s meeting of the Inishowen Municipal District.
Councillor Martin McDermott first raised the issue, stating that the back car park in Carndonagh is a centre for ‘cars diffing’ at weekends.
“Can ramps be installed there,” he asked.
Cllr Bernard McGuinness also called for speed ramps to be installed at the entrance to all towns and villages on the peninsula ‘to protect our citizens from speedsters.’
In response, Mr Hopkins told the meeting that ramps create their own difficulties, and it’s more a case of where not to put them.
“Antisocial driving has spiked during lockdown and we are speaking to Gardai about that,” he said.
“There is also the problem of the lighting of bonfires on roads and bridges, causing a lot of damage and costs.”
