A MAN caught driving at 166km/h on a busy Donegal road has been convicted of carless driving.
Gardaí were operating a speed checkpoint at 2.16pm on June 6, 2021 at Dromore, Letterkenny.
OIfficers detected a black Volkswagen Golf, being driven by Lorcan Kilpatrick, traveling at 166km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Kilpatrick (23) of Drumhillagh, Smithboro, County Monaghan, was stopped and arrested.
Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that Kilpatrick was ‘compliant and apologetic’.
Solicitor for Kilpatrick, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client was collecting a friend to go to the ferry and was late.
“He is a young man who has never been in trouble before,” Mr Gallagher said. “He made full admissions and he co-operated fully.”
Judge Deirdre Gearty convicted Kilpatrick and fined him €500, giving six months to pay.
