Donegal County Council has granted permission for the extension of quarrying activity in Mountcharles.
Conn Friel was given the green light for a ten year period for the development relating to a total area of 1.4 hectares in the townland of Drumkeelan. This comprises an extraction area of 1.3 hectares and a haul road of 0.1 hectares. Extraction of rock will be undertaken by mechanical means down to a level of approximately 112metres. The development also includes occasional processing of material using mobile plant as well as landscaping and restoration of the quarry.
It is proposed that the material from the new extraction area will be transported to McMonagle stone in Mountcharles.
