Celebrations are underway in Kilmacrennan village after Kilmacrennan National School were crowned Concern All Ireland School Debating Champions.
Close to 150 teams entered the inaugural competition but it was the Donegal school who came out on top.
John Cannon (team captain), Conn McGettigan and Orla Kearney were the Kilmacrennan team speakers while Sadie McGettigan worked in the background, keeping the time and helping with Rebuttals.
The final saw Kilmacrennan NS propose the motion that ‘GM foods are the key to ending
world hunger’ while Scoil Bhríde of Kilkenny opposed.
It was a close call but the judges awarded a deserved victory to Kilmacrennan School,
highlighting the substance of the argument, the persuasiveness of the pupils and their sense of humour as key attributes in their decision.
Many congrats to the team members and to John Devenney (Mentor) as well as teachers Miss Anne Marie Ferry, Mr Mel O Donnell and Mrs Susanne Gallagher for their assistance throughout.
