GARTAN National School, Churchill, has been approved for tender stage for a new mainstream classroom for the school.
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Donegal T.D., Charlie McConalogue, confirmed the news this evening.
McConalogue said: “This is great news for the school, for the staff led by Principal Joanne Gildea, parents and students and for all the Gartan community and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the community. It is very important for the ongoing success of the school community and for the health and safety of staff and students.
“I thank my Cabinet colleague Minister Norma Foley for considering this project and the staff, parents and students of the College for all their work.
“I look forward to the school progressing to the tender process in the quickest timeframe possible.”
Last December, planning permission for an extension at the school was granted by Donegal County Council.
The extension is to comprise a new mainstream classroom with ancillary accommodation and associated site development works.
The proposed extension is intended to replace an existing portacabin.
The school says the portacabin is no longer suitable for the needs of the school and the Department of Education has funded the provision of a permanent replacement classroom.
