Gardai are investigating a gorse fire in the Kinnegar area of Rathmullan.
The fire spread a huge plume of smoke over the beach shortly before 8pm.
A large section of gorse beside the beach caught fire.
The fire has since been brought under control.
Gardai are on the scene and investigating what started the blaze.
