Holiday home owners in the popular seaside resort of Rossnowlagh have been told to stop using local litter bins to dump their household waste.
A local community walking group, Rossnowlagh Ramblers, felt the need to publicise the matter this week following a number of incidents.
“Hi holiday home owners in Rossnowlagh,” their open letter on their Facebook page stated.
“You have decided to build or buy a house in our beautiful Rossnowlagh, and I believe they are quite expensive, so why oh why can you not afford to get a bin?”
They added that local volunteers are just ‘sick and tired’ of holiday home owners using public bins for their ‘weekend rubbish.’
“The volunteers are just sick and tired of you using the public bins for your household rubbish. Yesterday we emptied the green bin in the big carpark and we went off to litter pick on the beach. And, when we came back, the bin was full to the brim of household rubbish that should not have been there.”
They also cited another example from a couple of weeks ago.
“A couple of weeks ago, we were emptying the black bins beside the surf club and this flash guy in a four-by-+four jeep pulled up and starts to put his household rubbish in the bin. We asked him not to, but he continued anyway and was very rude to us, and sped off. But we have the number of his jeep, and his name, we do realise that most of you have a bin ,so please if your holiday neighbour does not have one please advise him or her to get one.”
