A MAN who was engaged in the supply of drugs in the Letterkenny area has appeared in court.
Ahmad Majeed (27), with an address at The Island Chapelizod, Dublin was before the Court after being found in possession of over €1,800 worth of illegal drugs in Letterkenny.
As part of an ongoing investigation, Gardaí executed a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an apartment on Pearse Road, Letterkenny on January 30, 2017.
During the course of the search, Gardaí located ecstasy to the value of €900, €840 worth of cocaine and €86 of cannabis.
Officers also seized €300 in cash in the operation.
When interviewed by Gardaí, Majeed admitted that he was engaged in the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the Letterkenny area.
Majeed is currently serving a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence in Mountjoy on other charges.
He appeared via video link at Buncrana District Court.
Solicitor for Majeed, Mr Kieran O’Gorman, said Majeed was a student in Letterkenny at the time of the offence ‘and he got involved with the wrong people’.
“It was an unblemished situation and he was never before the court before,” Mr O’Gorman said. “He got mixed up with a crowd and that was unfortunate for him.
“A number of people, not just my client, was involved. He made admissions about his part in the whole thing.
“He wasn’t actually present for the finding of the drugs. On his return from Dublin, the seizure had occurred and others were arrested.”
“If he hadn’t been so forthright, he may not be in this situation “
Judge Alan Mitchell ordered that the seized cash be forfeited to Letterkenny Youth and Community Club.
Judge Mitchell said he was not going to propose a custodial sentence as it was Majeed’s first offence.
For the possession of ecstasy for the purpose of sale or supply, Majeed was fined €200. Majeed wad fined €200 for the possession of cocaine for the purpose of sale or supply while the other charges were taken into account.
