NIAMH McLaughlin never really felt that Donegal shook off Westmeath in yesterday’s Lidl National Football League Division 1A clash.
Donegal won by nine points (2-13 to 1-7) with captain McLaughlin netting twice.
Westmeath stayed in touch for long spells until, finally, Donegal pulled away,.
“They’re a sticky enough team,” McLaughlin told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“They’re dogged and we always knew that they’d push us. We just knew that we had to settle ourselves in the second half.
“We pulled away in the second half, but playing the game it didn’t feel like that. They were always a threat going forward.
“We had to make a few early changes, but girls we put on make a difference. We have a squad of 29 players there now and they all push on for places, which is encouraging.”
