DECLAN Bonner described himself as ‘delighted’ as Donegal got 2021 off to a winning start in Omagh.
Donegal came back from lockdown with a fine performance to defeat a Tyrone side under new management with Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher now calling their shots.
“We’re delighted to get the two points,” Bonner said.
“We have plenty to work on, no doubt, but it was the first day out and the first game of the season. There was plenty of football in it.
“We bid our time and we were patient for scores.”
The teams were level at 0-10 apiece at half-time but Michael O’Neill was sent off in the 41st minute and Donegal, who were spurred by six Michael Murphy points, took the win.
Bonner said; “One thing I knew was that we would have a committed squad. You could see that with the energy that has been about the place.
“Some technical stuff can be brushed up, but that’s natural after going into a first game in six months. That sharpness will come through games.”
