The summer is looking good for the Donegal tourism industry after a survey put the county as the SECOND top place people want to holiday at in the coming weeks.
The survey of one thousand Irish holiday-makers by Circle K puts Kerry top of the list with 39% saying they plan a trip to the southwest.
But Donegal has come in a strong second place with 29% of those surveyed saying they are heading to the North-West for their staycation.
The survey is great news for hotels, restaurants and other attractions around the county which have been closed for months because of Covid.
Of those looking for a bit of downtime in a quiet part of our little island, Slieve Liag cliffs is proving most popular with 22% saying they would like to visit the stunning scenery of the area.
Joanne D’Arcy, director of market development at Circle K says: “It’s great to see that so many people are planning to staycation this summer, with some exciting trips and destinations on the cards.”
The survey also asked people what summer activities they missed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
54% say they missed indoor dining in pubs and restaurants, while 31% say they missed going to concerts and music festivals and 23% say they missed the All-Ireland GAA Championship matches.
