A Donegal man will later this month become the first Irish-born mayor of the London Borough of Islington.

The inauguration of Councillor Troy Gallagher, from Letterkenny,  will take place at the AGM of the council on Thursday week.

Cllr Gallagher will be Islington’s first Irish born Mayor from the Republic of Ireland.

Unfortunately, due to social distancing the number of guests allowed in the Council Chamber will be extremely limited.

Before taking the chair, the newly elected Mayor will take the oath and read aloud the Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

In 2010, Cllr Gallagher was first elected as a Labour representative in London.

Councillor Gallagher has chosen the following charities for his Mayoral year: icap Psychotherapy and counselling services; James’ Place: Suicide prevention and forum+, a support for victims of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic hate crime.
