BRENDAN Boyce has been confirmed on the Irish team for the European Race Walking Team Championships.
The Finn Valley AC man will compete in the men’s 50k walk in Podebrady, Czech Republic on May 16.
Boyce, who is set to compete in his third Olympic Games later this year, is one of three Irish athletes named for the Europeans.
Boyce is joined by Kate Veale, who goes in the women’s 20k walk and Cian McManamon, who will go under starter’s orders for the men’s 20k walk.
The Milford native booked his place at the Tokyo Olympic at the European Race Walking Cup in Alytus, Lithuania in May 2019 when he created new Donegal, Ulster and Finn Valley records in finishing in 3:48:10.
In 2019, Boyce – who is coached by former World champion Rob Heffernan – was sixth in the men’s 50k race walk at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships, finishing in 4:07:46.
According to the final entries, 212 athletes – 111 men and 101 women – representing 25 countries will be competing across the six events which make up the programme in Podebrady.
