Daniel O’Donnell made an Irish grandmother’s funeral truly special this week with a surprise virtual performance.
The Donegal singer was so touched by the eulogy at the funeral of the late Margaret McCarthy, a lifelong fan from Cork, that he decided to surprise her family with a phone call at the burial.
The Irish Independent reports that Daniel had been watching Mrs McCarthy’s funeral online and heard how much of a part he played in her life. He then called the undertaker to ask could he sing over the speakers in the graveyard.
The family of the late Mrs McCarthy had already organised for a recording of Daniel’s ‘Beyond The Rainbows End’ to play during the burial, but never expected to hear a performance from Daniel himself.
