ISSUES over planning permission on the N56 are ‘causing huge problems’ and becoming more regular.
This week’s meeting of the Glenties Municipal District heard that the problems are now being raised on an almost-weekly basis.
Large swathes of the MD straddle the N56 and Councillors have again expressed frustrations.
“We have a huge problem here – people just won’t get planning permission there,” Councillor Anthony Molloy said.
“Donegal County Council may approve, but TII won’t approve it. The N56 to us is a local road and it can’t be read like the M1 in Dublin.
“This is a huge problem that is now cropping up on a weekly basis. People won’t apply because they won’t4 get anything.”
Councillor John Shéamuis Ó Fearraigh called for a meeting to address the matter and suggested that a public policy was needed on the matter.
Councillor Marie Therese Gallagher suggested that a white paper be produced while Cllr Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig asked that the MD members meet with the TII to thrash out the issues, which are a regular topic at MD level.
Donegal County Council’s Area Planner for the Glenties MD, Sinead McClafferty, told members that she would raise their concerns to senior management.
