An environmental group in Carndonagh is appealing to local businesses to take part in its new survey.
The ‘ECO Carn’ group has been preparing a local biodiversity audit and action plan for the area over the past number of months.
As part of this, they invited local people to participate in the wildflower data collection, which was then published as a calendar for 2021 as part of this work. The group also held a seminar on the role and value of hedgerows and last month released two videos as part of national Tree Week, featuring some actions that local groups and schools have taken to support diversity.
As part of this, ECO Carn are working to raise awareness of biodiversity to local businesses, helping them to be more aware of how their business processes impact on nature and how they can help, locally and globally. The emphasis is on positive solutions and encouraging business to get involved with the plan.
Currently they are contacting the local business community to learn about what they are doing to support biodiversity. They also want to look at opportunities for the vibrant local business community to engage in initiatives within their own business or the community to tackle climate change and prevent further biodiversity loss.
Deirdre Bradley, Carn Traders group and local business person, is encouraging members to give their feedback to the survey.
“We believe members can shape this work and help make Carn a green and eco-friendly town. Already many businesses are using compostable materials and recycling, but this is an opportunity to get their ideas and get involved in solutions and positive actions for the benefit of nature and ultimately ourselves as well,” Ms Bradley said.
