THREE members of the Jump ’n’ Jacks Special Olympics Gymnastics Club had success at a recent virtual competition.
Letterkenny’s Meg Carr won gold in the women’s artistic floor gymnastics while Sarah Bradley from Killygordon took gold in the women’s artistic floor gymnastics.
Kobe Barrett from Letterkenny won a silver medal in the men’s artistic floor gymnastics.
Eight-year-old Sarah and Kobe, who is also eight, were first time competitors.
Athletes did all their training at home with assistance from their parents and siblings and the videos were sent to Special Olympics Ireland for judging.
Jump ’n’ Jacks is a special Olympics Gymnastics Club which is held at Letterkenny Community Centre on Saturdays.
Volunteer Monica Grier said: “We can’t wait to get back together again. We had our first virtual training session two weeks ago.
“This competition was a huge learning curve for the families to get the routines done and video it at the same time.”
During the first virtual competitions 429 athletes, representing 69 clubs from across five regions, competed in four sports – athletics, artistic gymnastics, football and motor activities – over a four week period.
