A surfing enthusiast in Waterford is about to take on a Viking Marathon in aid of Donegal’s Liquid Therapy foundation.
Liquid Therapy was established ten years ago in Bundoran to provide surfing and water therapy services to children with additional needs. A team of ocean lovers drive the service and support young people (4-16) who either struggle to, or cannot participate in, mainstream opportunities.
Tramore man, Craig Butler is campaigning to raise money for Liquid Therapy as he takes on the virtual Waterford Viking Marathon challenge.
Craig has overcome his own battles this year, and wants to give back.
This time last year, Craig weighed 110kg and had completely stopped surfing and only left his house a handful of times over the space of a year. Most of the year was spent on the couch or in bed with the curtains closed. He is now in the best condition that he has ever been in and would love to give back and help others achieve the same goal.
Craig said: “Tom Losey and his team at Liquid Therapy do some amazing work for children with disabilities and who have and are at risk of problems with mental health by introducing them to the amazing wonders and healing power of the ocean.
“I really cannot think of a better organization to help raise funds for than Liquid Therapy. To introduce children with disabilities and aim to provide an alternative way of coping with their problems is just amazing. Tom and the team at Liquid Therapy truly do some amazing work all over Ireland. “
