Relief is in sight for residents of a Ballybofey estate who have been forced to deal with dangerously deep potholes.
The Cathaoirleach of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District has revealed that works to improve the road at The Beeches in Ballybofey are to commence in the coming weeks.
Cllr Gary Doherty has received news from Donegal County Council that they are currently in the process of awarding a contract for the works.
Cllr Doherty welcomed the resolution: “Residents in The Beeches have rightly been highlighting the frankly disgraceful state of the roads in the estate for a number of years. These roads have deteriorated to such an extent that they presented a danger to road users and pedestrians alike.
“Residents in this estate pay their taxes like everyone else, and regardless of whether the estate is classed as an unfinished estate or not, they are entitled to access their own homes safely and without damaging their cars in the process.”
Cllr Doherty continued: “After numerous representations from residents and elected representatives, I am delighted to receive news this afternoon from Donegal County Council that they are in the process of awarding a contract for these works, and that the works will commence in the coming weeks.
“I would thank the Council staff, in particular the staff tasked with Unfinished Estates who have given invaluable assistance with this matter, and have ensured that we are finally close to a resolution.
“In the meantime, I will continue to liaise with my Council colleagues and the Council staff to ensure these works will commence as quickly as possible.”
