A leading Donegal firm of solicitors said it is expecting a ‘surge’ in divorce cases as a result of the lockdown.
Boyce Kelly Solicitors has also said that Ireland will likely follow the example of China, where its lockdown led to a big spike in separations.
“It is predicted that the same will happen here and divorce rates will surge.
“Unfortunately, this prediction comes as no surprise,’ the firm said.
In its online advice to divorcing couples, it said that virtual meetings can be difficult and warned that the divorce courts are slower because of the lockdown.
“Given the current situation, the legal landscape is changing all the time but the courts offices are open, albeit working in a much slower way,” it added.
