Arranmore Island was one of the first islands yesterday to receive a consignment of Covid-19 vaccines.
Following a request from the HSE, Defence Forces personnel delivered the consignment to the Donegal island, and to the Aran Islands off Galway.
Three shipments of the Moderna vaccine were flown to Arranmore, Inis Mór and Inis Oírr from Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel, by two EC-135 helicopters.
The vaccines were handed over to GPs on arrival, to be administered to residents on the islands.
The Defence Forces have said it marks a significant milestone in the roll-out of vaccines across the country, and highlights their support to the health service in the fight against Covid-19.
