GARDAI are warning the public to be aware of the latest scam that is circulating.
Numerous people have received text messages recently advising them that an attempt has been made to deliver a package to them, but there is an unpaid charge.
The user is invited to click a hyper link
This link may lead to a reputable delivery company branded page, which is a fake copy, with hyperlink showing as the package number in the text.
Clicking the link leads to a page to enter bank card details to pay for excise on the package in question.
“Once the scammers have your credit/debit card details, they will scam you for much more,” An Garda Síochána have warned.
“A simple rule is to never click on these hyperlinks (blue coloured underlined text). Contact the delivery company named in the text message or the company with whom you did actually place an order via a verified phone number or email to enquire if there are any such charges.
“If you have fallen victim to this sort of scam, please alert your Bank ASAP and also report the matter to us.”
