TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of popular Twin Towns man John McGonagle.
John passed away peaceful at Letterkenny University Hospital following a short illness.
A former Corporal in the 24th Infantry Battalion and 28th Infantry Battalion, John, late of Trusk Road, Ballybofey, will be laid to rest on Wednesday.
“John McGonagle was a brilliant character,” the 24th Infantry Battalion archives said on Facebook.
“He was friendly, courteous and helpful and will be whole heartedly missed by everyone who knew him down through the years in the FCA and PDF.
“God bless John McGonagle and all the souls of our dear friends that have sadly departed from us over the last few years.”

In recent years, John worked as a guide at Glenveagh National Park and was a popular figure with tourists and visitors to the facility.
Predeceased by his sister Mary, John is survived by his loving wife Noreen, daughter Michelle, sons Charles, Shaun and Patrick, brothers Patsy, Charles and Eamon, sister Susan and a wide circle of friends and family.
