HIGH volumes of people using a walking trail near Letterkenny have led to concerns about the amount of cars parked along a public road.
The Corravaddy Wood Walk is a popular destination for people in the Letterkenny area with a growing number using the scenic route during Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions.
Letterkenny-based Councillor Kevin Bradley has asked that the carpark at Corravaddy be extended.
“This lockdown the traffic is parked everywhere,” Cllr Bradley said in tabling a motion to the monthly meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
“There could be 30 or 40 cars parked there at the one time. People using the road are up in arms and there is nowhere to park.
“This could be a very good facility if this work was undertaken.”
In response to Cllr Bradley’s motion, Donegal County Council said: “This carpark is under the ownership of An Coilte.
“Donegal County Council has no funding to carry out these works. We will assess the situation at this location and will liaise with An Coillte to see if a solution can be identified.”
Donegal County Council executive engineer David McIlwaine said the local authority was aware of a ‘serious parking problem along the road’.
