ALMOST 200 schoolchildren in Donegal have still not secured a place on a school bus despite being eligible for the school transport scheme.
Figures released to the Dáil recently by Education Minister Norma Foley show that 1,758 children across the country who are eligible have yet to secure a place.
Donegal has more children affected than any other county.
There are 199 pups here still awaiting a place with 187 in Galway and 176 in Cork.
When at full capacity, Bus Éireann transports over 113,000 students daily.
“The purpose of my Department’s School Transport Scheme is, having regard to available resources, to support the transport to and from school of children who reside remote from their nearest school”, Minister Foley said.
