An historic coast guard station near Donegal town is to be converted into luxury apartments.
Donegal County Council has granted permission to Karen Espey for the redevelopment of the former Ball Hill Station, a protected structure, at Summer Hill.
The proposed works will include four self-contained apartments, demolition of the ruins of the old boathouse to make way for a new one. The plans also allow for the provision for rock armouring to prevent coastal erosion.
The station was erected in 1866 and was used as an An Oige youth hostel from 1947, up until its closure in 2004. It commands a stunning position on an inlet on Donegal Bay.
