ALL close contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases could be tested again by the end of this week.
As case numbers continue to fall, the HSE say that they are again ‘anxious’ to resume testing of close contacts.
Testing of close contacts was postponed following a surge in December. However, that could now resume.
“We do want to get back to [testing the] wider community now, and thankfully we saw below 2,000 again yesterday,” HSE chief Paul Reid told Newstalk.
“If we start to see that trend for a few days, we are very anxious to get back to the testing of close contacts.”
Mr Reid said that medics are seeing ‘something different’ in the new Covid-19 strain.
He said: “Something has definitely changed – there is a higher impact from it and a slightly higher mortality from it.
