JASON Quigley is expected back in the ring next month – and the Donegal middleweight could fight for a title.
Quigley is being tipped to meet Shane Mosley Jr, son of former three-weight champion Shane Mosley, on February 13 in California.
The planned bout is reported to be part of the undercard of a title fight between Joseph Diaz Jr and Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov.
The hopes looked in jeopardy when a date in Moscow didn’t work out while another possible slot fell when Sergey Kovalev – who was set to headline a January 30 card – failed a drugs test.
Now, though, it seems as if the stars could be aligning for the Andy Lee-trained Quigley to make his return to action.
Team Quigley are remaining tight lipped on the rumours, but a source said that they were ‘close’ to finalising an announcement for the 29-year-old’s next move.
It is expected that the full details will be revealed before the end of the week and it is believed that a belt may be up for grabs between Quigley and Mosley Jr.
Previously, Quigley won the NABF middleweight title in 2017 and made a successful defence of that belt in 2018.
Now trained by former WBC world middleweight champion Andy Lee, Quigley has been waiting in the wings since his January 2020 stoppage of Fernando Marin for his next outing.
