A man and woman were viciously assaulted following a row between neighbours on a Co Donegal housing estate.
The woman was glassed in the face and the man punched a number of times following the row.
It is understood the row may have been sparked following complaints over noise in the area.
The incident happened at Fairgreen Park in Letterkenny at 12.20am this morning.
It is understood that a number of items including a screwdriver were produced during the course of the sustained row.
A number of other neighbours tried to come to the assistance of those who were set upon during the row.
Another person was badly bitten during the melee.
The female victim, who sustained an injury to her eye after being struck with a glass, was rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital for urgent treatment.
The front door of a house was also kicked in during the attack.
Local Garda Sergeant Paul Wallace has appealed for anybody who was in the area at the time to contact Letterkenny Garda station.
A spokesperson for the Garda Pres office confirmed a full investigation has been launched into the attack.
“Gardaí responded to reports of an assault in Fairgreen Park, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal this morning, 19th January 2021.
“One female was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of her injuries. One male in his 30s has been arrested in relation to this incident and investigations are currently ongoing at this time.”
