A young man has been sent forward to face trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court following a shooting incident in which a Garda car was shot at.
Stephen Dowling, aged 23, appeared at Letterkenny District Court where the court was told he faced 11 charges arising out of the incident in Glenties last February.
It followed an incident in the early hours of February 22nd, during which shots were fired which resulted in a Garda patrol car and another car being struck.
The court was previously told that Dowling, of Burren Road, Carlow, was arrested after he had visited Donegal on a hunting trip with his uncle and nephew.
He was in Donegal with relatives hunting deer at the landowner’s permission and was intoxicated when the alleged incident happened.
The charges include criminal damage, possession of a firearm, a knife, ammunition as well as intent to endanger life or cause damage to property.
Detective Garda Enda Jennings told the court that he had served a book of evidence on Dowling.
Garda Sgt Jim Collins said the Director of Prosecutions had decided that Dowling should not be sent forward for trial to the Special Criminal Court for some of the eleven charges but that all charges should be sent to Letterkenny Circuit Court.
Dowling’s solicitor asked the court to appoint a senior counsel as he said the matters were “quite serious.”
The accused will appear again at Letterkenny Circuit Court on January 26th.
