The 43-year-old man faces five charges contrary to the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1988.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was before Letterkenny District Court.
Detective Garda Enda Jennings served the book of evidence on the accused.
The charges cover offences which are alleged to have taken place at an address in Donegal on different dates in 2019.
The charges include the production of child pornography for the purpose of distribution, publishing, exporting, selling or showing it on two separate dates.
The man is charged with possessing 15 images and six videos depicting child pornography stored on a mobile phone.
He is charged with communicating with a child for the purpose of facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child.
The man is also charged with causing a child under the age of 17 to watch or look at images of persons engaging in sexual activity.
The man, who was present in court, did not speak during the brief hearing.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has consented to the man being forwarded to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
