A LETTERKENNY man has avoided prison after being found with €6,000 worth of cocaine.
Adrian Brogan (33), of Sliabh Sneacht Close, Letterkenny, received a six-month suspended sentence and was also ordered to do 100 hours of community service in lieu of six months imprisonment.
On March 14, 2019, Gardai executed a search warrant under the misuse of drugs act at Brogan’s home.
Officers found €6,000 worth of cocaine, a white powdered substance believed to be a mixing agent and digital weighing scales.
Brogan made admissions in interview that he had the drugs for the purpose of sale and supply.
Judge Paul Kelly, presiding at Letterkenny District Court, described the case as ‘a very serious matter’.
“The value is in multiples of what we would normally deal with in this court,” Judge Kelly said.
“The growth of the supply of criminal drugs has devastating and negative effects which are documented in many communities and I can’t take that lightly.”
Defence solicitor, Mr Michael Shiel, said his client ‘needs help’.
Mr Shiel asked Judge Kelly to put Brogan on a probation period.
At a previous sitting of the court, Mr Shiel said Brogan was ‘trying to sell drugs to fund his own debt’.
For the possession of cocaine, Brogan was sentenced to 100 hours of community service.
For the offence of having the drugs for the purpose of sale or supply, Judge Kelly sentenced Brogan to six months in prison and suspended the term on Brogan’s own bond of €250.
