A DONEGAL man has appeared in court after being found in possession of over €100,000 worth of cocaine.
Mark McMonagle (24), with addresses at Sylvain Park, Letterkenny and The Cottages, Ballyraine, Letterkenny was before Letterkenny District Court.
Bail was granted by Judge Paul Kelly, with a number of strict conditions attached.
An independent surety of €20,000, including €5,000 in cash, was provided by the accused’s father, James McMonagle, who accompanied him to court.
At approximately 3.10pm on Friday afternoon, as a result of an intelligence led operation, a vehicle was stopped at an MIT Checkpoint at Drumbuoy, Lifford.
The vehicle was searched resulting in the discovery of the stash, with a street value of €105,000, in a plastic bag concealed inside a clothes bag in the boot.
McMonagle was charged and initially brought before a special sitting of Sligo District Court on Saturday evening, where Judge Kevin Kilraine granted a temporary bail bond.
McMonagle, who is represented by solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian, is charged with the possession of controlled drugs, 2 grammes of cocaine, for unlawful sale or supply. McMonagle faces another charges of possession of the cocaine.
McMonagle has had to surrender his passport and driving licence.
A curfew between 10pm and 7am was imposed by Judge Kelly on Monagle, who has to sign on once a week at Letterkenny Garda Station.
McMonagle is to remain sober and be drug free, is to reside at his parents’ house and be contactable at all times via a mobile telephone to be supplied to Gardaí.
The case was adjourned to March 8.
