Heartfelt tributes have poured in for “much admired and respected” paramedic Ronan O’Keeney, who passed away on Saturday.
Ronan O’Keeney of Spierstown, Clar, Donegal Town, was an Advanced Paramedic with the National Ambulance Service.
A kind, dedicated and caring professional, his passing has left the north west community devastated by the loss of a “true gentleman” and family man.
Ronan passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family, following an illness.
Condolences have been paid to his wife Breege and son Ross, his parents Brendan and Ellen and extended circle of family and friends.
Tributes paid to Ronan have honoured his lifelong work serving the community.
Ballyshannon Ambulance Station have remembered their dear friend and colleague: “Ronan was a gentleman and a first class practitioner who cared for so many during his years of service,” a spokesperson said.
“He will be sorely missed by so many and we extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Breege and son Ross and to his extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.”
The Leghowney Community expressed their condolences with a touching tribute: “Ronan was a true gentleman who worked so hard in his profession as a paramedic and in his community to help others. He will be greatly missed by so many throughout the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all his family at this sad time.”
A spokesperson for the National Ambulance Service Representative Association commented: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we receive the news of the passing of Advanced Paramedic Ronan O’Keeney.
“A much admired and respected member of the National Ambulance Service.
“Our sincerest condolences go to his family, friends and NAS colleagues at this time. He will be sadly missed and always remembered by everyone who knew him.”
Four Masters GAA have also remembered a dear friend and said: “Ronan was an absolute gentleman and enjoyed nothing more than coming out to Tirconaill Park to cheer on the various football and hurling teams that his son Ross played for and the camogie teams that his wife Breege coached.
“A Killybegs man by birth , Ronan was adopted into our club wholeheartedly and his presence on the terraces will be sorely missed.”
Funeral mass for Ronan O’Keeney will take place at St. Agatha’s Church, Clar on Monday at 11am.
