SCHOOLS are expected to stay closed until January 11 after the Cabinet met to discuss the escalating number of Covid-19 cases in Ireland.
Schools were due to reopen next Wednesday, January 6.
A countrywide move to full Level 5 restrictions – to include the closure of non-essential retail and gyms – is set to be announced this evening by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
Today’s was the second Cabinet meeting in three days and was called due to the growing concern around the number of Covid-19 cases and an increase in hospital admissions.
