SOME €638m in funding for crucial farm payments has been secured for next year.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and Donegal TD, Charlie McConalogue made a submission to the European Commission.
The submission was designed to ensure that payments for key farm schemes such as GLAS, Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC), Beef Data and Genomics Programme (BDGP) and the farm improvement scheme TAMS were safe.
Concerns had been raised over these schemes as the current CAP programme has ended and the new CAP will not commence until 2023.
Minister McConalogue said he is delighted to be able to bring this good news to the farmers of Donegal.
“I am acutely aware of the importance of the money from these schemes has to farmers in Donegal, the rest of the North West and the rest of the country.
“When I took office in September, I made it a key priority to ensure that these vital payments were safeguarded for next year despite the uncertainty around CAP.
“I am pleased to note that the European Commission has looked favourably on our submission and this has cleared the way for these payments to be available to farmers in 2021.
“This is €638m of real money for real farmers and underlines my ongoing commitment to deliver for all farmers who produce high quality goods.”
