RESTRICTIONS on household visits will be eased for two weeks over Christmas.
Tánaiste Leo Varadakr said today that the Government expects to allow people to visit the homes of family and friends over the festive period.
Under current restrictions, only essential household visits are permitted.
A phased easing of the lockdown measures is expected to be announced this Friday and will include some early guidance on Christmas movement.
Varadakr says it is the Government’s intention to enable people to have a normal Christmas with inter-county travel restrictions to be easier closer to Christmas.
“It is the government’s objective to have family dinner on Christmas Day as normal as possible, but it’s too early to make that call yet,” he said.
“We know people are going to do it anyway, so it’s better we provide for it in a safe way”.
It is reported that the Government is considering allowing up to three households to gather over the Christmas period.
