Errigal College in Letterkenny has a long history of contributing to the Society of St Vincent de Paul’s Christmas hamper appeal over the last twenty years.
Normally at this time of year, the school would be busy collecting, sorting and packing food donations from students and staff for the annual hamper drive which has seen thousands of hampers donated down through the years. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions this year it is not possible to collect food donations as usual.
With the impact of COVD-19 ongoing, the school has come up with a unique approach to keep healthy and active while also raising vital funds for St Vincent de Paul (SVP) in the run up to their busiest time of the year.
Errigal College is challenging all students, staff, local business, workplaces and indeed the wider community, to run, walk or crawl 100km over the next six weeks, commencing Monday 16 November. This equates to 16.7km per week or approximately three 5ks.
With the Level 5 lockdown not set to lift until 01 December, people are already busy looking after their physical and mental well-being by pounding the pavement in the evenings and at weekends, so why not get your family to commit to the challenge and get your friends or colleagues or workplace team to sponsor you for an extremely worthy cause and continue your good habits throughout the month of December?
All donations are collected through a dedicated fundraising page on the SVP website with 100% of donations making their way to SVP with no service charge for donating. Donations will be shared equally between St. Colmcille’s Hostel in Letterkenny and the Letterkenny branch of SVP.

Dúshlán Tiomsaithe Airgid Ar Leith Seolta ag Coláiste an Eargail Ar Mhaithe le Carthanas Fiúntach Áitiúil
Tá Coláiste an Eargail ag tabhairt airgid d’achainí ciseán Nollag Chumann Naomh Uinseann de Pól le fiche bliain anuas. De ghnáth, ag an am seo den bhliain, bheadh an scoil gnóthach ag bailiú, ag sórtáil agus ag pacáil tabhartas bia a fuarthas ó dhaltaí agus ó bhaill foirne don fheachtas bhliantúil ciseán, feachtas a raibh na mílte ciseán mar thoradh air thar na blianta. Ar an drochuair, de bharr shrianta COVID-19 i mbliana ní féidir tabhartais bhia a bhailiú mar is gnách.
Mar gheall ar thioncar leanúnach COVD-19, tháinig an scoil aníos le cur chuige ar leith le daoine a choinneáil sláintiúil agus gníomhach agus iad ag bailiú airgid do Chumann Naomh Uinseann de Pól (SVP) agus muid ag druidim leis an am is gnóthaí den bhliain dóibh.
Tá Coláiste an Eargail ag tabhairt a ndúshlán do dhaltaí, do bhaill foirne, do ghnólachtaí agus d’ionaid oibre áitiúla agus go deimhin don phobal i gcoitinne, 100km a rith, a shiúl nó é a dhéanamh ar na ceithre boinn sna sé seachtaine amach romhainn, ag tosú Dé Luain, 16 Samhain. Is ionann é sin ag 16.7km in aghaidh na seachtaine nó tuairim is trí 5km.
Cé nach mbeidh dianghlasáil Leibhéal 5 ag críochnú go dtí an 01 Nollaig, tá daoine gnóthach cheana féin ag tabhairt aire dá bhfolláine fhisiceach agus mheabhrach trí na cosáin a bhualadh tráthnóna agus ag an deireadh seachtaine. Mar sin, cad chuige nach bhfaighfeá do theaghlach le glacadh leis an dúshlán agus do chairde, do chomhghleacaithe nó d’fhoireann ionaid oibre a fháil le hurraíocht a dhéanamh ort ar mhaithe le cúis mhór mhaith agus leanúint ar aghaidh le do dhea-nósanna i rith mhí na Nollag?
Baileofar gach tabhartas trí shainleathanach tiomsaithe airgid ar shuíomh gréasáin SVP agus gheobhaidh an carthanas 100% de na tabhartais de thairbhe nach mbeidh aon táille sheirbhíse i gceist le hairgead a thabhairt. Roinnfear tabhartais go cothrom idir Brú Naomh Colm Cille i Leitir Ceanainn agus Brainse Leitir Ceanainn de SVP.
