A disqualified driver under the influence of cocaine was caught last night after they were found speeding.
Buncrana Roads Policing Unit says that they observed a vehicle being driven at a high speed overnight. When the vehicle was stopped, gardaí discovered the driver had been disqualified from driving.
The driver then tested positive for cocaine at the roadside.
A spokesperson says: “An arrest was made, the vehicle was seized and a court appearance will follow. Never ever drive whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
Gardaí in Buncrana also seized a number of fireworks last night as part of Operation Tombola, a Garda campaign which aims to tackle the illegal use of fireworks over the Halloween period.
Elsewhere in the county last night, gardaí in Letterkenny caught a motorist whose car had not been taxed or tested for a very long time. The tax on the vehicle expired 1065 days ago.
The Volkswagen car had been stopped at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint.
A garda spokesperson adds: “This driver’s trick ended up earning them a not so nice treat as the car was seized!”
