ANOTHER 41 positive cases of Covid-19 have been detected in Donegal.
Figures released by health officials this evening show that there have been 881 new cases recorded in Donegal oveer the last 14 days.
The incidence rate in the county per 100,000 population is 341.4.
Nationally, there were six additional Covid-19 related deaths reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre today.
Health officials were notified of 772 new cases of the coronavirus.
Ireland’s death toll is now 1,908 and there have been a total of 61,059 positive cases.
Of the cases notified today: 362 are men / 406 are women; 64 per cent are under 45 years of age; the median age is 36 years old.
There were 228 new cases in Dublin, 120 in Cork, 50 in Meath, 41 in Donegal, 41 in Galway and the remaining 292 cases are spread across all remaining counties.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health said; “The overall situation has improved, but we have to remember that these are very early days. This improvement will only be maintained if we keep going in our efforts.
“We have to remember that incidence is increasing in older age groups, who are particularly vulnerable to this disease. The way in which we can protect them is if we continue to drive down transmission across the whole population.”
Dr Holohan noted that the incidence rate among older age groups is increasing and added: “The way to protect them is to continue to drive down transmission across the population.”
Earlier today, nine further Covid-19 related deaths and 566 new cases were confirmed in Northern Ireland.
There have been 697 deaths and 37,782 cases in Northern Ireland since the outbreak.
