ANOTHER 50 cases of Covid-19 have been detected in Donegal, as the county prepares to move to Level 4 of the Covid-19 restrictions from midnight.
Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan will enter Level 4 at midnight amid growing concern at the rate of positive cases in those counties.
Nationally, three further Covid-19 related deaths and 1,205 new cases were reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) today.
The 1,205 cases recorded today is the highest daily figure of new cases since the outbreak began.
288 of today’s cases are in Dublin with 173 in Cork, 123 in Meath, 97 in Galway and 63 in Cavan.
Ireland’s death toll has risen to 1,838 and there have been a total of 46,429 positive cases.
The Lifford-Stranorlar Local Electoral Area has the second highest 14-day incidence rate in the country at 610.3, behind Ballyjamesduff in Cavan, which has an incidence rate of 651.1.
Eleven counties, including Donegal, have an incidence rate of over 200 per 100,000 population.
“There has been further increases across all key indicators of Covid-19 and the growth rate of this epidemic has accelerated since NPHET last met,” Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said.
“Cases notified over the past week have increased by 82% compared with the previous seven days, from 3,514 to 6,382 cases.’
